ABSOLUT MANGO: Turning Flavour Into Visual Experience
A fact commonly regarded as a problem when applying graphics to a bottle is dealing with the optical effects of a bottle filled with liquid. The design team at Ergonomidesign looked at the problem from another angle - as a challenging opportunity. Instead of designing a solution adapted to the limitations, they came up with an innovative design for the iconic ABSOLUT bottle. The result is a design that expresses the complexity and richness of mango flavour, using optical effects to enhance product experience and to make the product stand out in a crowd.

RTI-Sports Ergon: Advancing Bike Handles
Why are bike saddles designed differently for men and women but not bike handles? The German company RTI-Sports wanted to challenge this and asked Ergonomidesign to design ergonomic, gender-specific handles.

3M Speedglas: Making Welders Feel Cool
How do you make an angular welding mask look stylish on a human head? Ergonomidesign came up with images of medieval knights and set about designing the welding helmet’s elegant, aristocratic shape.
When Ergonomidesign started collaborating with entrepreneur and inventor Åke Hörnell, his company was based in a cellar in southern Sweden. In 2004, Hörnell’s company turned over 42 million euros and was sold to 3M in the same year.

Aerocrine Niox Mino: Reaching Kids at Home
Niox Mino is the world’s first handheld device for monitoring inflammation in the airways of asthma patients. Aerocrine asked Ergonomidesign to design a user-friendly and affordable device that could be used in clinics and at homes.
The Niox Mino enables Aerocrine to expand the market for its technology. So far, Niox Mino has been launched in the Nordic region, Germany and New Zealand. Over 500 units have been delivered to Germany alone. Read more > |
Bahco Ergo Screwdriver: Using Both Hands
In 1978, Bahco and Ergonomidesign discovered that craftsmen at work commonly use both hands to tighten a screw. User tests showed that efficiency would be improved by 70 percent if the screwdriver handle enabled a two-hand grip.
The first so-called Ergo screwdriver was launched in 1982 and was followed by other hand-held tools such as chisels, pliers, knives, saws, paint scrapers and adjustable spanners. More than 1.5 million Ergo screwdrivers were sold in 2004. Read more > |

Daphne Autorefractor: Simplifying Eye Exams
Autorefractors are used by optometrists during eye examinations. Hawaiian company Daphne LLC wanted to develop a hand-held, low-cost autorefractor that would dramatically increase accessibility, speed and precision.
Ergonomidesign helped raise USD 3 million to boost further development work by bringing Daphne’s vision to life with the aid of product concepts, prototypes, assessments, and sales material. The first product will be launched in 2007. Read more > |
Pfizer Genotropin Pen: De-Alienating Injection Devices
Genotropin is a man-made human growth hormone used to treat children and adults with growth hormone deficiencies. In 1991, Pharmacia (now Pfizer) decided to redevelop its existing injection device for Genotropin.
The Genotropin Pen, launched in 1996, makes it easier for children to accept the fact that they need to inject growth hormone on a daily basis. This friendly device hides the needle and is easily customizable with the aid of exchangeable plates. Read more > |

Ergonomidesign’s Gecco:
Watching Out for Winter Walkers
Every year some 100,000 pedestrians in Northern Europe suffer injuries due to slipping in snowy or icy conditions. Ergonomidesign has developed a shoe concept called Gecco with integrated anti-skid studs in the sole.
Users can easily change the shoe’s status from active (exposed studs) to passive (hidden studs) without bending down or using their hands. The market potential is huge; over 25 million people live in Scandinavia alone.
